Floor Joists
Wyder Engineered Timber Systems offer engineered timber I-Joists also known as I-Beams. An I-Joist is an engineered timber joist which combines an engineered composite panel with high grade softwood combining these components using advanced technology produces an excellent alternative to conventional construction timber and flooring methods. This offers quieter flooring and less shrinkage because of their resistance to shrinking and warping, whereas traditional timber will warp, twist and shrink as it dries out, causing annoying floor squeaks, ceiling cracks and gaps which involve costly site call-backs.
Our I-Joists are comprised of slow-grown high grade Scandinavian whitewood flanges combined with a structural board web, they are manufactured in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and the environmental standard ISO 14001. They are available in a range of common industry sizes with a variety of both flange widths and beam lengths and range joist depths (154mm to 450mm).
Advantages of I Joist flooring are that they are very efficient for carrying both bending and shear in the plane of the web because of their excellent strength to weight ratio, allowing longer spans between supports. I joists have the benefit of not requiring insulation to gain compliance with Building Regulation Part E when installed at 400mm centres and above. I joists are lightweight, planed all around and come in lengths up to 12m.
I joists can either be delivered to your construction site marked up and pre-cut ready for assembly or in prefabricated cassettes making them easy to install. They can be cut and easily fixed using traditional woodworking tools and can withstand normal construction site handling. The joists are designed to be a replacement for older solid timber sizes and allow house builders to keep pre-existing dimensions. Manufactured to exact specification using our sophisticated engineering systems. I joist installation is made easier since we supply detailed drawings with all deliveries including floor and roof layout aswell as listing all the beams, joist and relevant metal work. Allowable holes information is available on request, we can also design and manufacture custom I joist flooring to allow for specific depth, span or projects not covered by our standard sizing range, if you would like more information please contact us.
